Please Join Us

  • Please do come along and join in. The fund raising events are purely social in nature and are a great way to meet other members of the community.
  •
  • To join us simple get in touch with Kevin Bounds ( 641818); David Cornwell ( 641715); or Glynis MacDonald ( 641818).

Bring and share

  • The bring and share evenings are not strictly 'fundraisers' as there is no charge and therefore they raise no money.
  •
  • The objective is to provide a purely social evening where you can catch-up with friends, meet neighbours and others in the community.
  •
  • Bring a plate of food for the communal food table and bring your own booze - the booze is not generally shared!
  •
  • The bring and share evenings are advertised in the same place and the same way as other fundraising events.

Save the date

    That's it for 2016 folks

No more Church funding raising events planned in 2016.

There is plenty of other activity in the run up to Christmas. Check it out by clicking on the button adjacent to the 'News, social events and community updates!' in the banner on the home page.

    Events we've had this year

      Corporate Golf Day

      Saturday 23rd September

The annual Shirenewton Church Golf Classic was held, once again, at the local St. Pierre championship course. A beautiful day produced some interesting golf which was followed by Gin tasting, a three course meal and auction.

£4,900 was raised thanks to the generosity of the corporate sponsors, the individuals who donated auction prizes and the individuals who bid on the prizes and all participants who entered the draw.

      Call my Bluff wine tasting

The annual 'Call my Bluff wine tasting' was held on Friday 8th July 2016.

Call my bluff wine Tasting is designed to be fun wine tasting evening which requires absolutely no knowledge of the subject but does require a sense of humour.

A total of 6 wines in masked bottles are tasted - each of which have 3 descriptions read with varying degrees of accuracy - and teams have to use their skill and judgment (or just guess) which description was the real one. Needless to say, as the hour gets later the guesses become wilder!

There is also an (amusing?) wine related quizz to complete the evening.

Despite being primarily a social event, the evening raised £316.

      Village Fete

The annual village fete was on Saturday 11th June and the weather, though wet in the morning, was kinder in the afternoon. However, due to the morning's weather the gymnastics display was cancelled which was a great shame.

However, as always it's a great day out for the whole family. There were a full range of traditional fete activities such as the bottle store, tent, Pimms tent, skittles, welly wanging, etc. and lots of stuff for the kids!

This year there was a full range of histroic military vehicles (including rides in them) and a helicopter! The police also turned out with a squad car complete with flashing lights and two tones.

A total profit of over £4,700 was made. This profit was in part thanks to the generous sponsorship from the following:

      Moon & Co.

      Stratstone Landrover, Newport

      Hicks Logistics Limited

In addition, raffle prizes were received from:

      Stratstone Landrover, Newport

      The Tredegar Arms, Shirenewton

      Riverford Organic Farms

      Herbert Lewis Department Store, Chepstow

Fabulous Fish, at Chepstow Garden Centre

      Deacon Florists, Chepstow

The Isle of Arran Whisky Company

      The Huntsman Hotel. Shirenewton

      Riverford Organic Farms

Kinaree, Handbags & Jewellery of Distinction

      Budgens, Chepstow

      Curves, Chepstow

      Andrea Hale Zumba, Chepstow

And, in addition to the above, local villagers. Our thanks to all for their generous support.

Fete photos - cick here to open the album in a new tab.

The fete is a massive undertaking every year and couldn't be held without the hard endeavour of numerous people. Our thanks to all involved.

      6 Nations kick-off

The annual six nations kick off was held on Friday 5th Feb 2016. A total profit of £609 of which £100 was donated to Winston's Wish.

The 6 Nations Kick-off is the local community's celebration of the start of the Rugby 6 Nations. It features a fabulous ‘six nations’ ploughmans meal, a pay bar and, of course, the ever popular predictor to record your forecasts. No speaker this year, instead a number of rugby related quizzes.
